The glyoxalase system plays an important role in various physiological processes plants when they are subjected to different types of stress, whether physical, chemical or biological. Aspergillus flavus is aflatoxin-producing fungus that contaminates dry grains, leading a gradual deterioration the grains and significant reduction their nutritional value. objective present study was evaluate activity enzyme I (GLX-I) maize coleoptiles from Oaxaca response infection caused by flavus. Nine samples four races were analyzed. inoculated with suspension spores known concentration total protein extraction quantification performed on coleoptiles, GLX-I determined quantifying amount S-lactoylglutathione produced per minute. In addition, analysis gene expression reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) performed. showed symptoms infection, color changes wilting. proteins decreased significantly extracts presence fungus. analysis, two had highest enzymatic infected coleoptile extract respect healthy one, addition presenting greater RT-PCR assay, this due infection.
